We are a creative project, combining non-profit Ukrainian cinema, travel, communication, and a global cultural exchange. Our next large-scale project, “CineMotion 2010″ – is upcoming, planned for this May-September 2010. The route for our upcoming season’s film tour “Cinemotion 2010” is still flexible. Hubert Humphrey Fellowship: Call for Applications

The Hubert Humphrey Fellowship Program provides a year of professional enrichment in the United States for experienced professionals from designated countries throughout the world. Fellows are selected based on their potential for leadership and their
commitment to public service in either the public or private sector.

Each year approximately 200 Fellows funded by the Bureau of Educational and Cultural Affairs of the U.S. Department of State engage in non-degree study and related professional experiences at selected American Universities. Started in 1978, the program now has a network of over 4,000 alumni in 157 countries around the world working to improve their communities and the lives of those in need.

Fellows are placed at one of eighteen American universities chosen for
excellence in relevant Humphrey fields and for the resources and support they offer Humphrey Fellows. The host campus selection process is open to all Universities.

This year university competition is in the field of Substance Abuse
Education, Treatment,and Prevention. The fellowships are granted
competitively to both public and private sector candidates with a
commitment to public service in the fields …

-Make bird feeders out of water bottles (I did that today with first graders and it went great)
- Do a clean up, make it a competition between teams with prizes
- Planting trees is always fun and educational, ask your local ecologist for help.
-Show a film, there are links on the google group site that have 11th Hour and An Inconvenient Truth with Bulgarian subtitles.  Then hold a discussion about what your students can do right there in your site, let them help with the earth day planning.

then planting bushes in the park and to end the day
a clean up near the mountains ending with a picnic, a bon fire, and live music…

Youth Service America offers a variety of environmental service resources for Global Youth Service Day, including 55 Environmental Service-Learning Projects with 55 environmental service-learning project ideas, descriptions, and resources. Resources for Individuals & Community Organizations
Planet Connect  is a place for high school age students who care about the environment with an online community, resources, grants, and green job information.
All Earth Force program sites offer community educators innovative materials, training and support that help youth connect to their communities and address environmental issues, including: Community Action and Problem Solving (CAPS), the Global Rivers Environmental Education Network (GREEN), and Earth Force After School.

Earth Protect  is a web video/social networking hub on the worldwide environment that brings together people from across the globe, connecting them to each other, experts, environmental and sustainable development nonprofits, governmental units and green businesses. This is a network with a purpose. Earth Protect raises awareness worldwide on the need to live sustainably and connects people to information leading to effective action.
The EPA  offers service project ideas as well as the Energy Star program. The EPA is making a special effort to reach youth, ages 8-15. Through new, strategic partnerships with the Boys and Girls Clubs of America and PTO Today, EPA has brought the proven success of the Change the World, Start with ENERGY STAR campaign and the ENERGY STAR Pledge to this influential tween and teen audience while continuing to encourage all Americans to join the national movement toward energy efficiency with ENERGY STAR.

The United Nations Foundation is organizing The People Speak & Global Debates – The People Speak signature activity is the Global Debates. Each fall and spring, high school students in over 90 countries participate in the Global Debates by hosting a public discussion or debate on a specific global issue. Schools take their debates to action by organizing local service projects in their schools or communities, getting the attention of local press, engaging their elected leaders, and creating thought-provoking videos about the issue at hand. There’s still time to register and participate!

Looks like winter in Yambol may be on it’s way out. It’s crazy what a few days of warmth and sunshine can do to my mental outlook. Anyhow, just writing to share a link for “Teaching Tolerance” that a friend out in Cali uses. Their newsletter is interesting, and they have a lot of downloadable teaching resources for a range of ages. I’m trying to subversively introduce tolerance into my English Club. Last week I got asked,”Do all black people really act like that?”. To which I of course responded, “Like what exactly?”.
